Enzo Maresca Apologises to Chelsea as Manchester City Complete Manager Appointment

Manchester City have officially appointed Enzo Maresca as their new head coach, with the former Chelsea manager apologising to his former club over the circumstances surrounding his departure from Stamford Bridge.

City confirmed Maresca’s arrival on a three-year contract, replacing Pep Guardiola after the Spaniard’s successful spell at the Etihad Stadium.

The appointment comes less than seven months after Maresca left Chelsea in a move that caused tension between the two Premier League clubs.

According to reports, Manchester City will pay Chelsea £17 million in compensation for appointing Maresca, who still had three-and-a-half years remaining on his contract when he left Stamford Bridge. Maresca will also personally contribute compensation as part of the agreement.

Chelsea released a strongly worded statement following the announcement, saying Maresca’s unexpected departure was a major reason behind the club’s disappointing season.

In response, Maresca apologised to Chelsea, its players, staff and supporters for the disruption caused by his exit.

Despite the difficult ending to his time at Stamford Bridge, the Italian coach now begins a new chapter with Manchester City, where he will be expected to continue the club’s success in the Premier League and European competitions.

Maresca previously worked within City’s coaching setup before taking charge of Chelsea, making his return to the Etihad a familiar one.

Manchester City will now hope the 46-year-old can build on Guardiola’s legacy as they prepare for the new season.
