Manchester City could be in serious trouble if they are found guilty of a long-running financial case brought by the Premier League. The club has been accused of 115 breaches of financial rules, and experts say the punishment could include a record points deduction that would shake English football.

The accusations stem from alleged financial misconduct dating back several years. City strongly deny the charges, but the investigation has dragged on since 2023. An independent commission finished hearing the case in December 2024, but a final verdict has not yet been announced, leaving fans and rivals waiting anxiously.

According to football finance experts, if City are found guilty, the most logical punishment would be a significant points deduction — possibly between 40 and 60 points. That would be one of the harshest penalties in Premier League history and could even push City into the relegation zone.

City are currently competing near the top of the Premier League and are still fighting on multiple fronts this season. But a large points deduction could dramatically change their fortunes, affecting their title hopes and future European qualifications.

Under Premier League rules, the commission cannot directly relegate City to a lower division — that is controlled by the English Football League — but a big deduction could effectively leave them at the bottom of the league table.

So far, neither City nor the Premier League has confirmed exactly when the verdict will be delivered, although many believe it could come in the coming months. City officials continue to insist they have done nothing wrong and have mounted a strong defense.

Supporters of rival clubs have reacted strongly to the news, with some saying that a heavy punishment could help competitors avoid relegation or challenge for major honours.

Whether City will be cleared of wrongdoing or face one of the most dramatic sanctions in English football history remains unclear. But the outcome of this case is likely to have major implications for the club and the Premier League as a whole.
