Host nation Morocco kicked off their AFCON 2025 campaign with a strong 2–0 victory over Comoros, giving their fans a perfect start to the tournament.

After a tight first half, Morocco stepped up their game after the break. Brahim Diaz opened the scoring in the 55th minute, finishing calmly to give the Atlas Lions the lead. The goal lifted the crowd and gave Morocco full control of the match.

Comoros tried to respond but found it hard to break down Morocco’s defence. The hosts stayed patient and continued to push forward.

Their pressure paid off again in the 74th minute when Ayoub El Kaabi doubled the lead. His goal sealed the win and confirmed Morocco’s dominance in their opening game.

The victory puts Morocco in a strong position in their group as they look to win the Africa Cup of Nations on home soil for the first time since 1976. The performance also showed why they are one of the favourites to lift the trophy.

For Comoros, it was a difficult night, but they will take positives from their effort and look to bounce back in their next match.

Morocco will now turn their attention to their next group game, full of confidence after a winning start to AFCON 2025.

Morocco have started their AFCON 2025 campaign with a confident 2–0 win over Comoros, delighting the home crowd in the opening match of the tournament.

Kick-off:
The hosts began on the front foot, enjoying most of the possession early on. Comoros stayed compact and defended well, making it difficult for Morocco to create clear chances in the opening minutes.

Half-time: 0–0
Despite dominating the ball, Morocco went into the break level. Comoros frustrated the hosts with disciplined defending and quick counter-attacks.

55’ GOAL – Morocco 1–0 Comoros
The breakthrough finally arrived when Brahim Diaz fired Morocco ahead in the 55th minute. The stadium erupted as the Atlas Lions took a deserved lead.

74’ GOAL – Morocco 2–0 Comoros
Morocco sealed the win when Ayoub El Kaabi struck in the 74th minute, finishing off a smooth team move to double the advantage.

FULL-TIME
Morocco saw out the match comfortably, keeping Comoros at bay to secure all three points. It was a strong and composed performance from the tournament hosts.

The result puts Morocco top of their group early on and sends a clear message to the rest of Africa — they are ready to challenge for the AFCON 2025 title.
