Barcelona clinched a dramatic 3-2 win over arch-rivals Real Madrid to secure the Spanish Super Cup in Jeddah, continuing their dominance in El Clásico showdowns and reinforcing their position atop La Liga. The thrilling encounter at the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium showcased end-to-end action, with Raphinha emerging as the standout performer of the night.
Brazilian winger Raphinha was unstoppable, finding the net twice and haunting Real’s defense throughout. His first goal came just before halftime when he latched onto a clever pass and curled the ball expertly past Thibaut Courtois. After a frenetic first 45 minutes — which saw Vinicius Jr. equalize brilliantly with a solo effort and Robert Lewandowski restore Barca’s lead — it was Raphinha again who broke the deadlock in the second half. Luck was on his side as his shot deflected off a defender and looped over the line to make it 3-2.
Despite intense pressure in the closing stages, including a red card shown to Frenkie de Jong for a late challenge, Barça held firm. Real Madrid spurned a late chance to force extra time, allowing Barcelona to lift their record-extending 16th Spanish Super Cup title.
Team captain Pedri impressed in midfield, pulling the strings and setting up Lewandowski’s superb chip for the second goal. Meanwhile, young sensation Lamine Yamal continued to shine, supplying a dangerous through ball to Raphinha and threatening Real’s defense throughout.
At the back, goalkeeper Joan Garcia’s seven saves were crucial, keeping Barcelona ahead when Real surged. The win adds another chapter to Barcelona’s resurgence under manager Hansi Flick, who now boasts an unbeaten record in finals during his managerial career.
